Iran-backed Houthi rebels have resumed missile and drone attacks on Yemen’s al-Makha port, situated on the Red Sea. These strikes mark a continuation of hostilities in the area following recent escalations in the conflict.

According to reports, these attacks took place less than 24 hours after an earlier barrage targeted al-Makha and its commercial port, resulting in at least seven deaths. Medical sources confirmed these fatalities to Al Jazeera.

Furthermore, separate reports indicated that strikes on Sunday by Houthi forces killed at least eleven individuals in the port city. A medical source indicated that these assaults followed previous drone strikes aimed at a Saudi oil refinery on the Red Sea coast.

The escalation of these attacks comes amidst a backdrop of escalating tensions, as the truce in Yemen’s civil war appears to have collapsed. The ceasefire, which had been supported by UN mediation, has faced challenges since fighting resumed among regional supporting factions of the Houthis and the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
