Tension in Ceuta Over Threats of a New Assault

Castillejos is experiencing a tense calm and is currently without migrants awaiting a possible mass crossing into Ceuta, according to reports. A new attempt to breach the autonomous city of Ceuta is expected to occur this Saturday, based on messages circulating on social media.

While Spanish and Moroccan authorities consider the likelihood of this assault high, the residents of Ceuta view the situation with a degree of skepticism. Despite the increased police and military presence at the border, locals believe a new assault is inevitable, similar to the one that occurred in 2021, though they do not know when it will happen.

The night before, multiple groups of people attempted to cross into Ceuta illegally. However, Moroccan security forces managed to thwart these attempts before the migrants could approach the border area, according to official sources from the Government Delegation.

The Government Delegate in Ceuta, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, has been monitoring the situation since this morning. Security forces continue to work to manage the situation around the border with Morocco, where control measures have been intensified.
