Spain: Checks for passengers arriving from Italy

The Spanish government has introduced checks on a percentage between 5 and 10% of passengers on flights arriving from Italy. This decision was made in response to similar measures implemented by the Italian government following the large arrivals in Ceuta.

According to police sources, checks will be carried out only on those passengers believed to be boarding a flight from Italy but coming from countries outside the European Union. Additionally, the reinstatement of checks also extends to maritime traffic from Italy.

The European Commission has emphasized the importance of focusing efforts to prevent irregular entries and senseless deaths in the current context. Border checks will last until September 7.
