Residents of Fajã das Galinhas remain in temporary accommodations

A group of 120 people, consisting of 33 families, continues to live in temporary accommodations in Madeira, two years after being relocated from Fajã das Galinhas. This evacuation took place in August 2024 due to a fire that lasted 13 days in the region, from the 14th to the 26th of the month.

Despite the evacuation, there were no direct impacts on the houses in Fajã das Galinhas, as no residences were affected by the flames. However, the condition of the only road in the locality has deteriorated, becoming impassable and hampering residents' access.

According to reports, the community remains in temporary housing while awaiting a definitive solution to their situation. The absence of a permanent living space after two years is causing concerns among the inhabitants, who wish to return to their homes.
