Poland Thwarts Alleged Russian Plot to Assassinate U.S. Citizen

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the country thwarted an alleged plot by Russian secret services to kill an American citizen in Warsaw. According to Tusk, a suspect was recruited for this purpose.

This incident marks a notable occurrence, as Poland claims it is the first time someone on behalf of Russia has attempted to attack a U.S. citizen on the territory of a NATO country.

Western officials have expressed concerns about an increase in targeted killings attributed to Russia, particularly since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with several plots reportedly disrupted across Europe.
