Lula signs decree for free energy market for small consumers
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed decrees regulating the free energy market for low-voltage consumers starting in 2027.
On Wednesday, the 12th, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) signed four decrees regulating measures in the energy and energy transition sectors. One of the decrees highlights the opening of the free electricity market for low-voltage consumers, with a voltage of less than 2.3 kV.
According to information from g1, the regulation allows small consumers, including small businesses, rural properties, smaller industries, hospitals, and schools, to choose their electricity supplier starting in November 2027.
The decrees aim to facilitate access to electricity and promote competition in the sector, although details on implementation and impacts on tariffs have yet to be disclosed.
