Labor Groups Challenge Pasig Court's Wage Hike Orders in Supreme Court
Labor leaders and lawmakers urge the Supreme Court to nullify court orders blocking a Metro Manila wage increase.
On Tuesday, Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña and labor leaders called on the Supreme Court to review a temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by a Pasig court regarding a P85 minimum wage hike in Metro Manila. They argued that such an order is in violation of the Labor Code and should be overturned.
The call came as labor groups filed a petition to challenge both Pasig and Navotas court orders that have postponed the wage increase. They argue that these lower court decisions exhibit grave abuse and lack jurisdiction, thus warranting intervention from the Supreme Court.
In a six-page letter addressed to the Supreme Court, Cendaña and fellow advocates outlined their grievances surrounding the issuance of the TRO, asserting that justice and labor rights are being undermined by the court's actions.
The movement highlights the ongoing struggle for fair wages in the region, with multiple labor organizations uniting to push back against judicial orders they see as obstructive to workers' rights.
