Japan Defence Minister Visits Yasukuni Shrine Amid Controversy

Koizumi's visit has drawn criticism, particularly from China and South Korea, which view the shrine as a symbol of Japan's unresolved past regarding wartime atrocities. Visits by Japanese officials to the shrine have historically unsettled relations with these nations.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who was known for her previous visits to the shrine, did not attend, leading to speculation regarding her stance on the issue. Unlike former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who visited the shrine in 2013, Takaichi's absence has attracted attention.
