Hertha BSC won the opening match of the 2. Bundesliga against VfL Bochum 1-0. Sebastian Grönning scored the only goal of the match in the first half. The game took place at the sold-out Ruhrstadion.
The match had to be briefly interrupted when a fan banner interfered with play. Hertha's victory thus extends Bochum's negative streak.
