Court blocks R$ 1 billion in assets over fraud in São Paulo lighting project

The São Paulo Court of Justice (TJSP) has decided to block up to R$ 1.02 billion in assets belonging to former public managers and companies investigated for suspected fraud in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for public lighting in the capital.

The measure was enacted on the night of Friday, August 14, at the request of the São Paulo Public Ministry. Among the affected assets are those of three current and former public officials, as well as those of the company responsible for the lighting, Ilumina SP.

The decision was made by Judge Dimas Borelli Thomaz Júnior. The order to block the assets aims to ensure reimbursement for any potential damages that may have arisen from the fraud.

An appeal against the decision is possible, allowing those involved to contest the judicial ruling. The investigation is ongoing, but no additional details about the alleged crimes have been disclosed.
