Berlin introduces payment card for asylum seekers
The capital has implemented a payment card for asylum seekers, limiting cash withdrawals as the last federal state to do so.

Berlin has become the last federal state in Germany to introduce a payment card for asylum seekers. This initiative, known as SocialCard, allows recipients to manage their financial resources digitally, resulting in some changes to existing processes.
The introduction of the payment card means that asylum seekers in the capital will no longer receive cash exclusively. Instead, they can use the card to make purchases and withdraw a limited amount of cash.
